City officials in Georgetown are reviewing potential adjustments to the rideGTX and GoGeo public transportation programs to address a projected funding shortfall. During a February 10 City Council workshop, staff and council members discussed options including reducing rideGTX service hours from 24/7 to 6 a.m.–10 p.m., raising fares from $4 to $6, and capping usage when program funds are depleted.
Program background
GoGeo serves residents age 65 and older and provides limited trips for individuals with disabilities for $2 per ride through CapMetro, operating Monday–Friday from 7 a.m.–7 p.m. RideGTX, launched in 2025, gives users 10 vouchers per month for 24/7 rideshare service. Riders pay the first $4 of each trip, with the city subsidizing the next $10. Wheelchair-accessible trips are not limited.
The city reported that rideGTX saw over 2,000 trips in December 2025, leading to an estimated $70,000 shortfall if operations continue at this pace.
Council discussion and next steps
Council members favored reducing service hours over eliminating the program, with the possibility of extended weekend hours. Officials also discussed consolidating GoGeo and rideGTX into a single program for fiscal year 2027–28, while ensuring accessibility for residents who rely on paratransit for work or medical appointments.
City staff will return with a plan to combine the programs while maintaining flexibility in hours and services. Transitioning GoGeo users to rideGTX is expected to take six to eight months after approval.
