Georgetown’s $38M YMCA is taking shape

👀 We’ve been keeping a secret

We’ve been quietly working on something behind the scenes that goes far beyond our newsletters, and I’m so excited that we’ll finally get to share it with you next week!

I don’t want to give away too much just yet, but one part I can tell you about is a huge local events calendar and a truly local job board. You’ll be able to find nearby opportunities without wading through pages of Austin jobs you’d never want to commute to anyway.

Both will be completely FREE to use, whether you’re browsing local events and jobs or adding an event or job opening for your business.

And that’s only part of what we’ve been building. We’re also creating some exciting new ways to support local businesses, so if you own one, keep an especially close eye on next week’s newsletter. I can’t wait to finally show you!

🎉 Big-time indoor fun is coming to Pflugerville

The Gist: Parents, here’s an exciting one to watch! Kids Empire has leased 8,500 square feet next to Cinemark at Stone Hill Town Center for its first Austin-area indoor playground, tentatively opening in late 2027. The national chain is known for colorful climbing structures, ball pits, soft-block building areas, dance floors, a mini soccer arena and tracks with ride-on bumper bikes.

Why It Matters: Pflugerville families will get another air-conditioned place where kids can climb, explore, burn off energy and celebrate birthdays close to home. The playground will be part of Stone Hill’s final planned expansion phase, which will also include new restaurants, retail space and a shaded pocket park.

🏊 Georgetown’s first full-service YMCA takes shape

The Gist: Construction is underway on the new Sport Clips Family YMCA at 6200 Williams Drive. The $38 million, 55,000-square-foot facility will include a gymnasium, classrooms, meeting areas and dedicated dance and gymnastics spaces. The main building is expected to open in January 2028, followed by the outdoor pool in May 2028.

Why It Matters: For years, Georgetown families have relied on YMCA programs offered through local schools and a storefront location. The Sport Clips Family YMCA will finally give the community a dedicated home for youth programs, family activities, fitness and senior wellness. Voters approved $10 million in city bond funding, while local supporters raised more than $6 million to help bring the long-awaited project to life.

🍲 Korean comfort meets bluefin sushi

Craving something warm and a little spicy? Ghama Zone pairs modern Korean comfort food with an expanded Japanese sushi and sashimi menu led by an omakase-trained chef. The result is a fun mix of familiar favorites, creative fusion dishes and premium seafood served in a cozy downtown setting.

Try the creamy mala rose tteokbokki topped with ramen and cheese, or go for the fresh bluefin Tekka Don. With complimentary banchan, generous portions and genuinely welcoming hospitality, it’s an easy pick for a relaxed weeknight dinner or a meal that feels a little more special.

🎃 Pumpkins, pig races and fireworks return

Sweet Eats Adventure Farm launches its Fall Festival on September 19, packing 15 acres with family fun through November 8. Explore a Texas-sized pumpkin patch featuring more than 40 varieties, tackle the giant 4.5-acre themed corn maze, and enjoy daily pig races, pony rides, a petting zoo, jump pads, zip lines and apple cannons.

Weekend candy-cannon blasts add to the fun, while Friday and Saturday nights in October end with fireworks, except on Halloween. I’ve been on lots of field trips here, and the kids always have an absolute blast. This is definitely one I recommend!
