🍸 Alcove Cantina makes a comeback downtownThe Gist: After a brief rebrand as Sociedad, the longtime downtown spot at 119 E. Main St. is officially back to its Alcove Cantina name. A new general manager, who is also a trained chef, has introduced a refreshed menu that brings back several old favorites with new twists.
Alcove has also expanded into the space next door with The Fair, a country-western-inspired venue featuring a stage, pool table and full bar. Guests can order from Alcove’s menu, and the room is available for private events or open to the public on weekends when it isn’t booked.
Why It Matters: The familiar name locals have known since 2016 is back, along with more room for live music, karaoke, group outings and celebrations downtown.
🏙️ Round Rock’s $1 billion-plus District adds a major new phase
The Gist: Construction has started on a 41,500-square-foot dining and retail plaza at The District, the massive mixed-use development near SH 45 and I-35. Plans call for six buildings with space for nine to 14 restaurants and lifestyle businesses along a walkway designed to resemble a Hill Country creekside trail.
Construction is expected to wrap up in early 2028, although no tenants have been announced yet.
Why It Matters: The District has been in the works for years, so this is another major sign that the long-awaited project is moving forward. A 316-unit apartment community with ground-floor retail is also under construction, while the larger development is ultimately expected to bring more restaurants, shops, housing, hotels, offices and more than 5,000 permanent jobs to Round Rock.
🚁 Drone deliveries take flight in Round Rock
The Gist: Drone delivery has officially arrived in Round Rock! Zipline has launched an early-access program allowing eligible residents to order food and everyday essentials from participating businesses through its app. Drones hover more than 300 feet overhead and lower deliveries to the ground using a tethered pod.
For now, service is limited to eligible addresses within about three miles of its East Palm Valley Boulevard facility, with plans to expand across the Austin area.
Why It Matters: Round Rock is among the first communities in the area to try this new delivery option. The first 5,000 eligible residents can sign up for early access, with $10 off each of their first three orders and no delivery or service fees. Residents can check availability through the Zipline app.
