01What does your business do, in your own words?
My projects include marketing materials for small businesses, associations, and individuals; event collateral, especially for non-profits and fundraisers; and production work on educational materials, magazines, programs, ads, brochures, postcards, and social media.
“Some days I am swamped, and others are quiet.”
02How did you get started? Give us the origin story.
I wanted to work freelance graphic design so I could raise a family, prioritize my kids, volunteer in the community, and have a flexible schedule.
03What would locals be surprised to learn about you or the business?
I have a BFA in Communication Design and a BA in Spanish, and I have been a professional graphic designer for over 20 years.
“Graphic design is more than making things look pretty or cool.”
04What's the hardest part of running this business that nobody sees?
Reprioritizing my projects and deadlines can be tricky since clients' schedules and demands change constantly. Some days I am swamped, and others are quiet.
05What do you wish more people knew about your industry?
Graphic design is more than making things look pretty or cool. It takes skill to design communication, to consider what the client and customer want and need, and to use design skills including typography, layout design, color theory, and production and output.
06Favorite local restaurant that isn't yours?
We really like Blue Corn Harvest, La Tapatia, and Zeytun's.
