“Instead of sending valuable food waste to the Hutto landfill, I collect nutrient-rich food scraps and recycle them right back into local Texas farms and gardens, replenishing our local food supply.”
02How did you get started? Give us the origin story.
I started Curbside Compost ATX to help keep Williamson County clean. Instead of sending valuable food waste to the Hutto landfill, I collect nutrient-rich food scraps and recycle them right back into local Texas farms and gardens, replenishing our local food supply. This keeps you and your neighbors healthier and happier in a variety of ways.
03What would locals be surprised to learn about you or the business?
We are a very small local business. I run it from my house, collect scraps in a small van, and employ my kids and a neighbor. I care about my neighborhood and neighbors personally.
04Why here? What made you choose this area?
I raise my kids here. They go to school here and to dance class here. My wife and I have lived here for over 17 years. This is our home and we care about it.
05What do you wish more people knew about your industry?
Composting is normally seen as arduous, stinky, and messy. I make it all easy: composting without the mess, smells, or pests. It makes a difference in the environment from day one. Food scraps in the landfill create methane, whereas when composted they break down properly and turn back into valuable growing material.
