Lunch and Learn: Dangerous Latitudes
@
Guest Speaker: Jack Woodfille London, author of Dangerous Latitudes
Between 1836 and 1850 the Republic of Texas claimed sovereignty over an extraordinarily large swath of land. Jack W. London, along with two friends, set out to retrace those far-distant borders and accomplish what no Texan, Spaniard, or Mexican ever did—journey to and explore all of them. The trio undertook an expedition across west Texas and up the Rio Grande River and onward into the present-day United States, to circumnavigate our great state’s once-extended boundaries. They soon observed that Texas’ modern attempts to prevent people crossing the Rio Grande River into Texas go back much further than the twentieth century. His novel of that era, Dangerous Latitudes , was released in 2025. His forthcoming nonfiction book about those same boundaries, Audacity, will be released in January 2027.
