About WilCo Guide
Who runs this site, what we cover, and how we work.
Last reviewed:
WilCo Guide is an independent local news and community guide for Williamson County, Texas. We cover the I-35 corridor — Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Georgetown, Hutto, Pflugerville, Liberty Hill, and the smaller communities in between.
We are published from Georgetown by TJ Larkin (publisher), with reporting and editorial contributions from a small team of local writers. We are not owned by a chain or a venture fund. We are not run from out of town. We answer to the people who read us.
What we cover
Local news that affects people who live, work, and run businesses in Williamson County. The categories we publish in are visible on our News page: news, business, community, government, real estate, sports. We will be honest about the categories we have not built out yet — we are not pretending to be a full-coverage newsroom on day one.
Alongside the news we maintain a directory of local businesses, a jobs board, an events calendar, and verticals for real estate and obituaries. The directory is open by default — businesses do not have to pay to be listed. Pro is an optional upgrade for businesses that want a richer profile, deals, and lead capture.
Our editorial philosophy
We try to be useful before we are interesting, and accurate before we are fast. Our editorial standards are published in detail on a separate page — read those if you want to understand how we work.
We name our sources. We correct our errors visibly. We disclose AI-assisted reporting. We do not pretend that journalism is neutral, and we do not pretend that "balance" is the same as truth — but we do try to be fair to the people and institutions we cover, and to ask them for their side before we publish.
