Florence is the most rural community on our list, tucked into the northwestern corner of Williamson County where the land opens up into cattle ranches and wide Texas sky. Life here moves at its own pace, and that is the whole point. Florence is the kind of place where you wave at every truck that passes and where the local volunteer fire department hosts the best pancake breakfast in the county. The Florence Lions Club and local churches are the backbone of community life, organizing holiday dinners, domino nights, and check-in visits for older neighbors who live alone. The town sits along FM 487 and FM 970, with a small cluster of businesses including a gas station, a post office, and a few family-run shops. The surrounding countryside is beautiful, with wildflower-covered fields in spring and dramatic sunsets year-round. Lake Georgetown and the Good Water Trail are about twenty minutes south, providing excellent hiking and fishing. Medical services require a drive to Georgetown or Temple, which is the most significant consideration for seniors thinking about Florence. Internet and cell service can be spotty in some areas. But for those who value independence, open land, and a true rural lifestyle, Florence offers a way of life that is becoming harder to find. The community is small enough that everyone looks out for each other, and that kind of neighborly care means a great deal.
